ARevison of sorts…

I would like to say that my garden project is doing well, but I would be lying. I haven’t even started…

My life has been turned upside-down, but through all of this I have become a better man.

I have reconnected with old friends that God-willing will want to help me with this little project. I am no expert, I just know what works for me, and if we could have a few more people “help out” as it where, I think this site could really be of use.

Till next time,

Garden Project

July 30, 2009 by Urbane Sabine

We are currently in the process of moving into a house in the city, that has no yard. While I can container garden on the porch and such I am a little worried about the amount of traffic (read: smog and pollution) that could possibly be blown the 30 feet from street to porch. With that said…

Although I have no outside space to speak of I do however have a very large basement (as well as attic) that is nothing but block and mortar. Never one to be undone by adversity I have decided to grow my garden inside. I figure if potheads can do it with a weed, I should be able to do it with tomatoes. If I have success in the basement I may have to move some things up to the attic.

I figure that if I can become mother nature, I can have a sustainable indoor garden year round. It would be super nice to have produce 365 days a year and not have to worry about the elements. This is the first in a hopeful series.

More to follow…

Don’t waste the time…

July 24, 2009 by Urbane Sabine

I always like to find out for myself whether things people say on the internet are true or not.

Well, a few months ago I heard about the 6v battery hack in a magazine. I won’t say which one because honestly I don’t remember. The premise (which didn’t sound right to begin with) was that a 6v Lantern battery contains 32 double A batteries. Here’s the video…

Now being who I am, I had to find out if it was true or not. It’s not. I tried 3 different brands of batteries and ended with the same result. I even tried the Walgreen’s battery and still ended with the same result. 4 very large batteries. Although they could be useful for something they won’t power my mini-mag after the grid falls.

If I need to post video to prove my results I will, but I already wasted 15 dollars on this bogus rumor, I  really don’t want to waste more.

Well have fun and good prepping

The Coveted First Post

July 15, 2009 by Urbane Sabine

It’s all downhill from here…

Doomsteading, Prepping, Stockpiling, Caching, Pack Ratting. Whatever you may call the process of storing goods, the idea and motivation are the same; To prepare oneself for times when things may be non-existent or scarce.

The urge to stockpile can be from anything as simple as, ‘Wow, Wal-Mart had a sale on socks, now we have 500 pair’; to, ‘I saw what happened in New Orleans and I won’t let that happen to me’ , or it could be something even more. Those are just two examples and I am not about to sit here and pretend to know all the reasons, then list all the reasons, and then give commentary on the reasons. That would be asinine. However, what I can tell you is that I think I know at least two more reasons why people stockpile…

1. Some people think that The-End-of-The-World-As-We-Know-It (TEOTWAWKI) is knocking on our door.

2. Some of those people think that society is going to collapse and that it is going to be soon.

Now I believe both. I do not feel that Armageddon is coming and that the world will be a battlefield between God and Satan. What I do feel is that trends since the 1980’s have been pushing us closer to a collapse of all that is great, grand, and spectacular about this country. I feel that the electorate has gotten ignorant, that Socialism is coming, and that the financial crisis of today, will pale in comparison to the crisis that we will see in the next 5 years. I also feel that things that we all take for granted, the internet, cell phones, electricity, running water, natural gas, food on shelves, Mt. Dew, tobacco, cotton shirts, Q-tips, Toilet Paper, are all coming closer to that invisible “Best when used by XXXXXXX”. These are things that make modern life all the more better.

I believe that when the crash does happen that the majority of people will be unprepared. I believe that many will be standing around with their dicks flapping in the wind wondering, “What the Fuck?”

So I propose this site. I don’t have all the answers, but I know what works for me. I will update as often as I feel that I have relevant info on doomsteading, prepping and stockpiling. For rants in general and the views that have made me, me please visit http://urbanesabine.wordpress.com
